(Bushenyi) – Police in Bushenyi district have arrested two men in connection with the murder of their 52 year old mother, Kyomugisha Janiva. The incident occurred on the night of September 11, 2024, at around 9:30 pm in Ruharo village, central division of Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality.
According to the Greater Bushenyi region police spokesperson, Martial Tumusiime, the suspects, identified as Galeeba John and Tumwebaze David, allegedly intercepted their mother while she was returning from Omuruhita trading center. They are accused of strangling her to death before fleeing the scene.
Following the murder, police deployed a sniffer dog that picked up a scent at the crime scene. The dog tracked the scent back to the deceased’s home, where the two suspects were arrested.
A postmortem conducted at Ishaka Adventist Hospital revealed that Kyomugisha had strangulation marks around her neck, soft tissue damage on the right side of her forehead, and burst blood vessels in her face and neck, all consistent with being strangled.
Tumusiime also noted that there was no sign of a struggle at the location where her body was found, raising the possibility that she had been killed elsewhere and her body moved.
Local authorities, including Pankalasio Ndyanabo, the LC2 chairperson for Ruharo ward, reported that Kyomugisha had recently opposed her sons’ attempts to sell family land, which may have led to the fatal altercation.
