The prime suspect in the murder of a fuel station manager in Kireka has been arrested, along with several accomplices, following an extensive investigation by police.

(Kampala) – Security agencies have successfully arrested the main suspect and accomplices in the brutal killing of Agnes Nantongo, the former manager of African Oil Petrol Station in Kireka. Nantongo was found dead by the roadside on September 28, 2024, after being last seen leaving her office the previous evening.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, confirmed on October 23, 2024, that the prime suspect, identified as Edward Kaweesa, had been apprehended. Kaweesa was arrested alongside five other suspects: Jimmy Serunjoji, Robert Mwanje, Ali Muteesa, Juma Busulwa, and Pius Mugambe. The arrests were made at Dube Parking Yard on October 21, 2024, following an analysis of Kaweesa’s call data.

During the arrest, Kaweesa attempted to flee but was shot and injured in the leg by police. A search at the scene led to the recovery of two motorcycles, with registration numbers UFQ 934K and UFB 788Z, along with 174 SIM cards from various networks. These SIM cards are suspected to have been used in connection with several criminal activities, including robbery and murder.

Nantongo, a mother of two, was found dead in Kamuli A zone, Kireka, on the Northern Bypass after being last seen by her colleagues around 7:00 p.m. Her body was discovered the following morning at approximately 8:00 a.m. by a passerby. CCTV footage revealed that she had been walking toward the Northern Bypass after leaving the office, but there was no footage of the exact location where her body was found or anyone following her.

Initial reports suggested that she might have been attacked by someone who threw a brick at her. Nantongo’s mobile phone was stolen during the attack. The police have yet to confirm the motive behind the murder.

Speaking at Nantongo’s burial in Kasengejje, Wakiso District, on September 30, 2024, the fuel station’s operations manager, Wycliff Kagina, promised that the company would work closely with the police and other security agencies to ensure justice for her family. Nantongo was remembered by her relatives as a unifier and a key figure in her family.
