A Senior Two student of St. Francis Secondary School in Busunju, identified as Edward Matovu, is expected to answer murder charges after allegedly killing another student in a violent confrontation linked to a love affair.
According to reports, the victim, 19-year-old Rajab Mulindwa Bukenya, a learner at Naggulu Seed School in Namayumba, lost his life after Matovu attacked him with a panga, accusing him of having an intimate relationship with his girlfriend, Hafijah Nabutanda, who also studies at the same school.
Witness accounts suggest that Matovu had openly threatened Mulindwa in the days leading up to the attack and had been sharpening his panga while vowing to “deal with him” for getting involved with Hafijah. The situation escalated when Hafijah first visited Matovu at his rented single-room house, but later went to see Mulindwa, reportedly intending to spend the night there.
Unaware that Matovu had followed her, Mulindwa and Hafijah were caught together, which immediately sparked a violent altercation. Matovu allegedly drew the sharpened panga and attacked Mulindwa, leaving him fatally injured.
After the incident, Matovu fled the scene and went into hiding. Police, however, tracked him down and arrested him. He is currently in custody and awaiting prosecution.
