Three individuals, including a traditional healer, have been apprehended in connection with the murder of four bodaboda riders and the subsequent robbery of their motorcycles. The collaborative efforts of the Police in Kayunga district and the Elgon region in Mbale, along with the successful involvement of the Police Flying Squad Unit, led to the arrests.

The arrested individuals are Rajab Sekajja, 42, residing in Bulamula “B,” Kitimbwa sub-county in Kayunga district; Innocent Mudede, a 25-year-old resident of Kitimbwa village; and Madina Nailuka, a traditional healer from Budada village in Kayunga.

According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the suspects would allegedly carry out the murders and then transport the stolen motorcycles to Mbale for sale in the market. Investigations revealed that on December 4, 2023, the suspects ambushed bodaboda riders using machetes to carry out the robberies.

Enanga, addressing reporters at a weekly joint security briefing on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, noted that the trio was allegedly involved in the murder of Godfrey Tesibwa Yairo on December 2, 2023, along with the subsequent robbery of his motorcycle (UEX 2270C), which was later recovered in Mbale.

The investigation has uncovered that Madina Nailuka, the traditional healer, played a role in ‘cleansing’ the stolen motorcycles and the suspects from any perceived bad omens.

Efforts are now underway to identify the other four victims. Enanga emphasized, “The suspects are expected to provide information leading to the scenes where the other four bodaboda riders were murdered and the locations of the stolen motorcycles.”
