Three journalists based in Oyam town, Oyam district, were seriously assaulted by a street gang in Minakulu town council at approximately 2 p.m. yesterday 10th Feb 2025.
The journalists—Chris James Woo (Voice of Lango FM, Lira), Eman Yohna Oruk (Shine FM, Oyam), and Solomon Okello (Dokolo Post, an online publication based in Lira)—were covering the groundbreaking ceremony for the rehabilitation of a 7.6-kilometer road from Minakulu town council to Opuk parish, Minakulu sub-county.
The project is being undertaken by Hon. Santa Alum, the Oyam district woman member of parliament.
During the event, a group of approximately 70 youths arrived, seemingly with the intention of disrupting the program. They began assaulting the journalists, accusing them of taking photos and promoting Hon. Santa Alum.
Solomon Okello sustained the most serious injuries and was taken to Home Care Medical Clinic in Minakulu town council for treatment.
He was reportedly experiencing severe head pain. Hon. Santa Alum condemned the attack, suggesting it was orchestrated by her political opponents to undermine her work for the people of Oyam district.
The incident has not yet been reported to the police.
