Three Killed, Several Injured in Car Accident in Kabale

Three people were killed, and several others critically injured in a single-car accident that occurred on Saturday evening, January 25, 2025, at around 8:00 PM in Mushenyi B village, along the Bigaaga-Katojo access road in Kabale District.

The vehicle involved, a gray Toyota Corolla with registration number UAQ 372M, was reportedly being driven by Tumukunde Isaac, 30, a resident of Kinyame village in Kahunge Sub-county. Tumukunde, who survived the accident, fled the scene and remains at large.




Victims:




  • Deceased: Nanteza Loyce (37), Bugarukene Oliver (48), Ninsiima Kate (43) – all peasants and residents of Kinyame village.
  • Injured: Byaruhanga Aben (51), Ashakimana Moses (55) – both primary school teachers and residents of Kinyame village; Tumukunde Ismael (12) – a Primary 3 pupil at Katojo Primary School and son of Byaruhanga Aben; Akampurira Abraham (18) – a peasant and resident of Kinyame village.

According to police, the vehicle was traveling from Bigaaga to Katojo when the driver lost control and veered off the road. The car overturned down a steep slope, landing in a garden.




Residents rushed to the scene, retrieving the bodies and injured victims, who were taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital. The three deceased were transported to the hospital mortuary.

Police confirmed that a sketch map of the scene was drawn, and the vehicle remains at the crash site awaiting removal.

The scene was attended to by Cpl. Christopher Mugabo, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.




Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate has urged the public to cooperate with authorities in locating the driver and gathering additional details about the incident.

Authorities are also emphasizing the importance of road safety, especially on narrow access roads such as the Bigaaga-Katojo route.
