Kampala North Metropolitan Police have detained two men, both 23 years old, on suspicion of engaging in unnatural offenses in a salon in Kisingiri Cell-Namirembe, Bakuli Parish, Rubaga Division, Kampala. The suspects were apprehended last Friday.

According to Police Spokesperson Mr. Fred Enanga, the arrests came after a student took shelter from heavy rainfall on the salon’s veranda on October 20 at around 3 pm. The student reported hearing unusual sounds from inside the saloon, leading him to record the suspects’ actions, which he later shared with security guards at Total Mengo fuel station. The security guards subsequently contacted the police at Bakuli, resulting in the arrest of the two individuals.

Both suspects remain in police custody, facing charges related to practicing unnatural offenses. Mr. Enanga emphasized that such offences are considered punishable crimes in the country, as outlined by the Anti-Homosexuality Act, which was enacted in May 2023. Aggravated homosexuality can lead to severe penalties, including the possibility of a death sentence, depending on the specific circumstances of the crime.

Since the enactment of the Anti-Homosexuality Act, the police have intensified their efforts to apprehend individuals suspected of engaging in unnatural practices or homosexuality acts. This publication has learned that between June and October 2023, over 12 suspects have been arrested and brought before the court on charges related to engaging in or promoting homosexuality behaviors.

Mr. Enanga encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities in their communities to the police and local authorities to ensure that those involved in unnatural practices are apprehended and brought to justice.
