The Uganda Police Force is actively investigating two separate cases of aggravated defilement. In the first case, officers from the Territorial Police in KMP East and Nakifuma are searching for Otim Jolly Joe, a headteacher at Grace Day Care Orphanage Primary School. Mr. Otim is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old primary pupil from the school in August 2023. The incident took place at Busenya village, Nakifuma, Nagalama Town Council.
During school holidays, the suspect allegedly invited the victim to his home. Once the victim entered the room, Mr. Otim reportedly locked the door, undressed the victim against her will, and sexually assaulted her. Subsequently, in September, he gave the victim UGX 5,000 for a medical examination, which revealed that she was pregnant. On September 30, 2023, the suspect allegedly provided UGX 60,000 for an abortion, a request that medical workers refused. Instead, they reported the incident to the school director and the victim’s mother.
In a separate incident, the Greater Bushenyi police in Bushenyi district have detained an 18-year-old male suspect named Amanya Cryton. He is accused of aggravated defilement involving two 7-year-old female twins, both primary pupils. The incident occurred on October 4, 2023, around 6 pm.
According to gathered information, one of the twin sisters ran to her mother at Kijumo trading center, reporting that the suspect had attempted to defile them both. The mother quickly went home and discovered that the other twin daughter had been undressed and assaulted. The victim disclosed that this was the third occasion on which the suspect had defiled her. The LC 1 chairman was alerted by the complainant, and he ensured the suspect’s arrest. Medical examinations confirmed that the suspect had repeatedly defiled the female twins. It is noteworthy that the suspect is related to the victims’ mother and had been responsible for their care while she worked as a shop attendant.
The Uganda Police Force strongly condemns such acts of child sexual abuse, particularly when committed by individuals in positions of trust, such as teachers and caretakers. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend Otim Jolly Joe, the headteacher on the run, while Amanya Cryton will be charged with two counts of aggravated defilement.
