(Lamwo) – A soldier in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has been remanded following accusations of defiling his 16 year old daughter. The Fourth Division Court Martial, sitting at the Fourth Division Barracks in Gulu City, ordered the remand of Captain Kennedy Emmy Ocitti on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Court documents revealed that the alleged crime took place on April 28, 2024, in Labwor-Oyeng, Palabek Gem sub-county, Lamwo district. The prosecution stated that the minor was sexually assaulted upon returning from school on that day. The minor, along with her four year old brother, lives with Captain Ocitti and her stepmother.

According to the prosecution, following the assault, the accused threatened to kill his daughter if she disclosed the incident to anyone. However, her aunt eventually reported the matter to the police, leading to Captain Ocitti’s arrest at Padibe Police Station in Lamwo district.

Col. Innocent Tukashaba, chairperson of the court martial, denied the accused’s request for bail, citing the seriousness of the offense. The charge against Captain Ocitti is capital in nature. He has been remanded to Gulu Central Prison and is scheduled to reappear in court for a hearing on September 24, 2024.
