New details have emerged in the gruesome murder of David and Deborah Mutaaga, the retired couple killed in their home in Nakiwogo, Entebbe, painting a chilling picture of jealousy, betrayal, and possible family involvement.

According to fresh security intelligence, investigators believe the killer was a close relative or clan member, driven by deep-seated resentment over the Mutaagas’ wealth and status. The intruder, masked and armed, is said to have gained access through the fence, creating a hole in the house wall before entering undetected.

Once inside, the assailant reportedly found 69-year-old David Mutaaga seated in the living room. A brutal confrontation followed, with the attacker allegedly shouting:

“Why are you and your children the only ones rich in this family?”
before stabbing David multiple times.

Meanwhile, 62-year-old Deborah Mutaaga was in the bathroom and had managed to place a distress call to neighbors after hearing the commotion. Tragically, the killer forced his way in and fatally attacked her, while her phone line remained open—possibly capturing audio of the assault.

Believing she was dead, the killer reportedly returned downstairs to find David still alive. He then launched a second attack, repeating his bitter question about the family’s wealth before finally fleeing the scene.

Although the Mutaagas had installed CCTV cameras, police say identifying the killer has proven difficult due to the mask worn during the attack. Authorities are now analyzing voice recordings from Deborah’s emergency call in hopes of matching the voice to known relatives.

The couple had returned from Switzerland two years ago after working for over three decades in the banking sector. Sources say David was also the heir to his father’s estate, a factor believed to have caused tension within the clan.

Two house helpers have been arrested for questioning, though they were reportedly not at home during the incident. Other relatives who last visited the couple are now being summoned for interrogation, as the investigation intensifies.

The murders have left the Nakiwogo community in shock, with residents calling for justice and a deeper look into family dynamics that may have turned deadly.
