Buganda Kingdom Plans to Spend UGX 209 Billion in New Budget

Buganda Kingdom has unveiled its budget for the 2023/2024 financial year, surpassing the previous year’s budget. The kingdom plans to spend 209 billion shillings on its operations, with an expected 22.5 percent increase in revenue collection. The main sources of income include land-related services, partnerships, education, cooperatives, tourism, activities of the royal treasury, and media houses.

The 2023/2024 budget prioritizes funding for health, cooperatives, education, agriculture, economic development, the royal treasury, and investment. Investment and economic development receive the largest share at 61 billion, followed by education at 19 billion, management of royal treasury activities at 17 billion, communication and information at 14 billion, and land management at 10 billion shillings.




Buganda’s economy will continue to rely on agriculture, education, and services, with a focus on coffee and food production. The kingdom is emphasizing coffee growing and production but warns against unnecessary interference that could hinder its growth.




In the education sector, Buganda plans to establish labor market information systems and introduce short courses relevant to the job market. Additionally, the kingdom aims to complete the construction and operation of outpatient departments in various county hospitals.




The finance minister noted that the kingdom exceeded its previous budget, attributing the increase to strengthened partnerships with various stakeholders. Buganda Kingdom is committed to its 2023-2028 strategic plan, aiming to bring about broad-based transformation, wealth creation, and economic opportunities for its people.
