Wednesday, 10 April 2024, will be Eid El Fitr 1445/2024 in Saudi Arabia.

Muslims around the world are gearing up to celebrate Eid-al Fitr, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. In Uganda, hundreds of faithful are expected to gather for prayers at various mosques, including Kibuli Mosque and Old Kampala. This year, Eid falls on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

Leaders within the Muslim community have confirmed the date for Eid celebrations after failing to sight the new crescent moon on Monday evening, as is customary in Islamic tradition. Dr. Sheikh Ziyad Swaleh Lubanga, the director of sharia at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), announced that Eid-al Fitr will be observed on Wednesday.

At Old Kampala, Mufti Shaban Mubajje will lead the prayers, commencing at 10 am. Meanwhile, at Kibuli Mosque, Dr. Hafith Walusimbi, the director of Sharia under the Kibuli parallel Muslim administration, will lead prayers starting at 9 am. These gatherings are significant for the Muslim community, as they mark the end of a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

Dr. Lubanga emphasized the importance of praying for peace and harmony during the Eid celebrations. He urged believers to remember countries like Sudan, Ukraine, and Palestine, where conflicts have caused suffering and devastation. Dr. Lubanga expressed concern for those affected by war, stating, “This year’s Eid comes at a challenging time for our brothers and sisters in conflict zones. Let us pray for them and for peace to prevail worldwide.”
