Pastor Nicholas Bitamazire Takes the Helm as Executive Secretary of Uganda’s Adventist Church

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda, known as the Uganda Union Mission, has appointed Pastor Nicholas Bitamazire as its new executive secretary. This announcement came during the year-end meeting, which took place on October 30, 2023, at the East and Central African Division (ECD) headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

The meeting was attended by Archbishop Pastor Dr. Moses Maka, a prominent figure within the Seventh-day Adventist church in Uganda. The appointment marks a significant change in leadership within the church’s Ugandan division.




Pastor Nicholas Bitamazire takes over from Pastor William Bagambe, who has been assigned a new role as the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of finance and administration at Bugema University. The transition in leadership signals the church’s commitment to fresh perspectives and responsibilities within its leadership team.




Pastor Nicholas Bitamazire, who is yet to be ordained, currently serves as a senior lecturer at Bugema University. Additionally, he is pursuing a Ph.D. degree at the University of Africa, furthering his academic and theological qualifications.




Pastor Bitamazire’s educational background is notable, reflecting his commitment to theological and academic growth. He is a Ph.D. candidate at the Adventist University of Africa (AUA), demonstrating a dedication to deepening his understanding of religious studies.

His academic journey also includes a Master of Arts in Religion degree, which he earned from the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies (AIIAS) in 2016. Furthermore, in 2010, he graduated with honors from Bugema University, having completed his Bachelor of Theology degree.

In 2005, Pastor Bitamazire graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelor of Science degree with honors, showcasing his multidisciplinary approach to education.
