Bunyoro Kitara Diocese bishop emeritus Nathan Kyamanywa has criticized Christian politicians in the Bunyoro region, accusing them of compromising Christian values in pursuit of votes.

Kyamanywa, speaking at a thanksgiving event organized by the Bunyoro National Resistance Movement (NRM) party mobilizer Michael Ayeranga Christopher, raised concerns about Christian politicians worshiping Owobusobozi Bisaka, the leader of the Faith of Unity Movement.

The bishop, without naming specific politicians, emphasized the discontent among spiritual leaders regarding politicians kneeling and seeking blessings from Bisaka, suggesting that a synod should be convened to consider excommunicating such leaders.

He urged the Church to mobilize Christians against voting for politicians involved in activities that compromise Christian faith, challenging these politicians to choose between Christianity and the Faith of Unity Movement.

Bunyoro Kitara Bishop Samuel Kahuma echoed these sentiments during a Christmas sermon, condemning politicians for allegedly violating Christian values and emphasizing the incompatibility of serving both Jesus and other gods.

The bishops’ remarks followed a viral audio featuring MP Eric Musana Acaali introducing himself as ‘Omuhereza’ during an address to Faith of Unity Movement followers. Acaali later apologized to Christians after attending St. Luke Church of Uganda for prayers, acknowledging the embarrassment caused.

MPs, including Joseph Ruyonga, Steven Asera Itaza, Francis Kazine, and Barnabus Tinkasimere, faced criticism for kneeling and worshiping Bisaka despite being Christians.

In a fundraising event for Kyakirube Church of Uganda, Ayeranga praised religious leaders for their spiritual guidance. He encouraged them to mobilize followers to participate in government poverty alleviation programs, such as PDM and Emyooga, to enhance household income.
