The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Maj. Gen. Tumusiime Katsigazi, extends warm wishes to Muslims and well-wishers in Uganda and worldwide on the occasion of Ramadan. Ramadan, a sacred month in the Islamic calendar, signifies fasting, self-restraint, and community unity. Muslims unite in fasting, prayer, and adherence to core Islamic values such as peace, love, and compassion. Additionally, it’s a time for charitable acts, with Muslims contributing to the community through Zakat. The DIGP urges territorial commanders to participate in fasting alongside their Muslim colleagues to understand the significance of Ramadan better.

In 2023, the police collaborated effectively with Muslim leaders, ensuring a peaceful Ramadan. While no specific threats are identified this year, vigilance remains essential. To promote safety and security during Ramadan, several precautions are advised:

Precaution Description
Collaborative Efforts Territorial commanders should work with Muslim leaders to address safety concerns and patrol mosques.

Enhanced Security for Prayers Increase security presence during Juma prayers and safeguard parking areas.
Avoid Crowds and Isolated Areas Minimize risks by avoiding large gatherings and traveling alone, especially at night.

Managers are urged to support Muslim employees during Ramadan by accommodating their religious practices and ensuring their well-being:

Muslim individuals and households are advised to take precautions to ensure their safety during Ramadan:

Additionally, cultural sensitivity is emphasized, including dressing appropriately when visiting Muslim friends and refraining from eating or offering food in the presence of fasting individuals.
