Deadly Crash on Kampala-Gulu Highway Claims Five Lives, Leaves Six Injured

A tragic road accident along the Kampala-Gulu Highway in Nakasongola District has left five people dead and six others seriously injured.

The collision occurred around 8:30 PM on Sunday evening in Kyalweza Village, Wabinyonyi Sub-county. It involved two vehicles: a white Toyota Hiace (registration number UA 415AV) and a white Nissan Diesel truck (registration number UBL 615T), both reportedly driven by unidentified individuals.




According to ASP Sam TwiineAmazima, the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, preliminary investigations indicate that the Toyota Hiace was traveling at high speed from the Kampala direction when it veered out of its lane and collided head-on with the oncoming Nissan truck from the Gulu direction.




The impact killed five people on the spot and left six others with critical injuries. The injured victims were rushed to Nakasongola Health Centre IV and Kiryandongo Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for postmortem examinations.




As of the time of reporting, the identities of both the deceased and the injured had not been confirmed. Police are working to trace their families and verify the victims’ information.

Both vehicles were towed to Katuugo Police Park Yard for further inspection.

Authorities have reiterated calls for increased caution on the Kampala-Gulu Highway, which has become notorious for fatal crashes. Motorists are urged to adhere to traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving, particularly at night.




Police are appealing to the public for any information that may help identify the victims or provide further details about the incident. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to report to the nearest police station.
