Obongi district leaders led by the RDC and technical staff from the natural resources department have started demarcating wetlands and eviction of encroachers on wetlands.

Leaders in Obongi district, led by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Samuel Mpimbasa Hasaka and technical staff from the Natural Resources Department, have commenced the demarcation of wetlands and the eviction of encroachers.

The team was actively engaged on Wednesday in the demarcation process, involving various categories of individuals. The demarcation team comprises Senior Environment Officer Onzima Henry Pastore, District Staff Surveyor Nyadru Ceasar, District Physical Planner Drate Hamid, Forest Ranger Bashir Kajojing, and RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka. The exercise has begun in Palorinya sub-county, within the district of Obongi.

This initiative is in response to Executive Order No.3 issued recently by H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, directing the eviction of individuals occupying wetlands. Many people across the country have settled in wetlands for various purposes, including farming.

Hasaka has advised those affected to promptly vacate the areas designated as wetlands to avoid arrest or legal action.
