Labor Export Companies Instructed to Return 8,000 Confiscated Passports

In a recent development, the Internal Affairs ministry has taken steps to have labor export companies return more than 8,000 passports that they had unlawfully taken from job seekers.

Speaking to the press in Kampala, the ministry’s spokesperson, Mr. Simon Peter Mundeyi, revealed that the ministry had conducted an investigation which uncovered that a particular labor company in Kampala had in its possession 2,000 passports belonging to job seekers.

Mr. Mundeyi stated, “Since the demand for labor export has decreased, many individuals, especially women who had applied for passports to work in Arab countries, have had their passports confiscated by these labor export companies.” He further explained, “These companies have claimed to be holding these passports in anticipation of job contracts from Middle Eastern countries, leading to numerous complaints from affected individuals.”

The ministry’s actions aim to rectify this situation and ensure that the confiscated passports are returned to their rightful owners.
