There was jubilation in Dokolo Town Council and Dokolo District on Friday morning as renowned girl child advocate and local investor Owiny Agness declared her intention to contest for the position of Dokolo Woman MP.
Addressing the media from Dokolo Town Council on Friday morning, Owiny Agness stated that she is ready to run for the Dokolo District Woman MP seat in the 2026 elections under the NRM party ticket. An entrepreneur currently managing a local soap factory and empowering the youth with various skills, Agness has pursued several qualifications in Business Administration, among others. She is a strong advocate for the rights of farmers and the girl child.
Revealing her political ambitions to the media, the vibrant NRM cadre Owiny Agness expressed her determination to win the seat currently held by UPC’s Sarah Aguti Nyangkori. Agness stated that she aims to represent the true interests of her constituents in the 12th Parliament of Uganda, with hopes of serving from 2026 to 2031. She firmly believes that she is well-positioned to effectively represent and address the issues affecting the people of Dokolo District in the 12th Parliament once elected.
Agness outlined her legislative agenda and missions for the people of Dokolo, which include:
- Improving the quality of education and performance in academic institutions, and enhancing teachers’ well-being to ensure better access to quality education in the district by 2027.
- Uplifting Dokolo Health Centre IV to district hospital status.
- Enhancing infrastructural development and road networks within Dokolo District, including Adok, Okwalongwen, Kangai, Kwera, Dokolo Town Council, and Agwata Sub-county, among others.
- Prioritizing electricity stability and advocating for human rights in her manifesto as a woman MP.
According to Agness, she has quietly built her political network and strategized to make NRM shine in Dokolo, regardless of the challenges. She is currently consulting for her bid to become the next Dokolo Woman MP and is leveraging her experience in NRM and grassroots connections throughout all sub-counties and town councils in Dokolo District, thus mounting a strong campaign for the upcoming general election in 2026.
