The Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, has gained significant favor and praise from many residents of Lira City following the recent Lango Regional Health Assembly held at the Margarita Palace Hotel in Lira City. Dr. Jane Aceng, who also serves as the Lira City Woman MP, has promised substantial improvements and the establishment of fully functional HC IIIs in the Lango sub-region. She highlighted the increase in the number of Health Centre IIIs during her tenure as both the Minister of Health and as the Woman MP for Lira City.
During her address to hundreds of people at the Lango Regional Health Assembly, Dr. Aceng received commendations from officials and development partners. The assembly, which gathered over 600 participants from various health backgrounds, saw officials from the Ministry of Health and development partners in attendance.
Reacting to the current developments at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, many participants and speakers congratulated Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng for securing an ICU ambulance, which is now fully functional at the hospital. After commissioning the ICU ambulance, aimed at improving health referrals and emergencies in the Lango sub-region, she promised further developments in the near future. She reported that tangible progress is evident, noting that the recently released Uganda Demographic and Household Survey (UDHS) 2022 results show a 50% improvement in the maternal mortality ratio, decreasing from 336 per 100,000 live births to 189 per 100,000 live births.
Honorable Minister Dr. Aceng assured the people of Lango that she and the NRM government, under the able leadership of His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, are committed to continued progress. She emphasized their focus on enhancing the management of health facilities and demanded accountability and results from health workers.
Dr. Nathan Onyachi, Director of Lira Regional Referral Hospital, stated on Thursday that the assembly will help them provide accountability for their efforts in serving the people of Lango.
