EALA Games Bring East Africa Together in Sports, Diplomacy, and Shared Vision

The parliaments of the East African Community member states have convened over the past two weeks in Kigali, Rwanda, for the East African Parliamentary Games, concluding today, December 18, 2023.

The East African Parliamentary Games were initiated to unite East African parliaments and promote policies fostering social, political, and economic integration among the community member states. Various sports events, including football, volleyball, netball, athletics, badminton, and chess, have been competed in during the competition.




Throughout the games, all member states have exhibited a high level of brotherhood and togetherness. Honorable members have utilized the platform for physical exercise, gaining fitness, and building a strong coalition for East Africa.




The East African Community should not only exist on paper but be felt by the member states. These games serve as a unifying factor for all member states for the betterment of our motherland, Africa.




Hon. Veronica Babirye, a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) representing Uganda, has emphasized the message of President Mzee Kaguta Museveni and his counterparts in Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, DR Congo, and South Sudan of creating a United East Africa. This envisioned unity aims to establish a free trade area and facilitate the free movement of people and services among the states.

Hon. Veronica Babirye further expressed her gratitude to the initiators of the EALA Games, stating that it comes at the right time, witnessing nations integrating for the good of Africa. She emphasized that East African countries share similar social, economic, and political challenges that can only be addressed by coming together as one and embracing policies that benefit all member states.
