The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenzi, has instructed the Commissioner of Police, CP Chemonges, to arrest anyone found with unregistered vehicles on polling day in Dokolo district.
The Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Lalam Grace, has withdrawn from the race. Consequently, her votes will be considered invalid, leaving only six eligible candidates.
Fred Ebil Ebil, the Secretary-General of the UPC party, has requested that their agents be allowed to accompany election materials and that the commission provide assistance to all candidates.
Dr. Tanga Odoi has assured Mr. Ebil Ebil of UPC that issues affecting them should not impact NRM. Odoi mentioned intelligence reports indicating possible infiltration of border areas between Dokolo and Alebtong districts by individuals on motorcycles, emphasizing the need for heightened security.
“We are prepared for this election. While we represent political parties, we will uphold the law,” added Odoi.
Oyite Ojok Emmanuel, the Personal Assistant to independent Woman MP Dr. Akullu Esther, stated that election observers must be permitted to monitor progress during the night. Dokolo has 173 polling stations.
Voting for the by-election to replace the late Cecilia Ogwal will take place tomorrow, March 21, 2024.
