Yesterday, on Thursday, July 18, 2024, the halls of Naguru Police Headquarters buzzed with an unusual energy as SCP Ubaldo Bamunoba, the Chief Political Commissar, rolled out the red carpet for some very special guests – the enthusiastic pupils from Train Up A Child School, Bugolobi.

In true Ugandan hospitality, SCP Bamunoba greeted the young scholars with the warmth of a Kampala auntie offering a fresh cup of tea. His mission? To demystify the role of the police and build a bridge between the force and the future generation of Uganda.

“Welcome to our humble abode,” Bamunoba began, his voice as rich and reassuring as a well-brewed cup of African tea. “The Office of the Political Commissar is like the umbilical cord, connecting the police with the community. We foster positive relations and ensure we serve you better.”

The pupils, eyes wide with curiosity, listened attentively as Bamunoba embarked on a detailed discussion about the police’s role in society. He painted a picture of the police as the guardians of peace, similar to the way the village elders keep harmony during a heated clan meeting.

“We maintain law and order,” he explained, “investigate crimes, and enforce laws to keep you safe, just like your school rules keep the classroom in check.”

Next, the pupils were taken on a grand tour of the various departments within the police force. It was a journey through the inner workings of law enforcement that could rival a tour of the Kasubi Tombs in its awe-inspiring significance.

Department Description
Command Center The nerve center of operations, where every call for help is received and acted upon.
Forensics The CSI of Uganda, where scientific wizards solve crimes with the precision of a boda-boda.
Counter-Terrorism The frontline defense against threats, protecting the nation with the vigilance of a guard dog.

At the Command Center, the pupils saw firsthand how the police respond to emergencies. It was like watching a live episode of “Bukkede TV,” but with real heroes instead of actors.

In the Forensics department, the young visitors were dazzled by the high-tech equipment. Bamunoba likened it to the precision of an Ankole long-horned cow, every detail meticulously analyzed to solve the puzzle of crime.

The Counter-Terrorism Directorate was a highlight, with officers showcasing their readiness to protect Uganda, much like the legendary warriors of the Buganda Kingdom.

“Seeing is believing,” Bamunoba told the pupils, “and today, you’ve seen how we work to keep you safe. Just like your teachers guide you to be responsible citizens, we guide society to stay peaceful and lawful.”

The pupils left with a newfound respect for the men and women in Khaki, their heads filled with dreams of justice and order. SCP Bamunoba’s parting words were a reminder of the importance of community, “Together, we build a stronger Uganda, one where everyone feels safe and valued.”
