The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, announced his pledge on March 17, 2024, to mobilize Shs 200 million for the furnishing of the new centennial building at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Nyenga, Buikwe District. This announcement was made during a ceremony commemorating a century of excellence at the seminary, held on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
In addition to the financial pledge, Tayebwa committed to engaging the government to secure 20 computers for the institution, emphasizing the importance of modern educational resources in shaping future leaders.
The celebrations, conducted under the theme “Eternally grateful for such a fruitful garden, raising up shepherds after his own heart,” served as a tribute to the seminary’s rich legacy and its enduring impact on education and spiritual enlightenment.
During his address, Tayebwa underscored the vital role that institutions like St. Joseph’s Seminary play in molding future leaders of the Church. He emphasized that the seminary’s alumni have the potential to ascend to the highest echelons of religious leadership, thus sustaining God’s kingdom on earth.
Rev. Fr Eugene Safari, the Rector of the institution, praised Tayebwa for his dedication and support to the seminary. He highlighted the Deputy Speaker’s significant contribution to the construction of the centennial building, acknowledging his commitment to the institution’s development.
Founded in 1924 by the Mill Hill Fathers, St. Joseph’s Seminary has stood as a pillar of education and spiritual guidance for generations. Its century-long legacy continues to shape the lives of students and contribute to the broader community’s intellectual and moral development.
