Huawei’s ICT Talent Development Benefits Over 1000 in Teso Sub-Region

Huawei Technologies’ DigiTruck project in Teso Sub-region has successfully equipped more than 1000 individuals, including youth, women, Jua-kalis, and local district officers, with essential digital skills. The initiative aims to empower participants for engagement in e-commerce and the effective marketing of local produce.

Covering all 11 districts in the Teso sub-region, a total of 1,139 beneficiaries have undergone ICT training, aligning with Uganda’s 2040 vision, National Development Plan, and Education Digital Agenda Strategy. The program is part of Huawei’s broader ICT Talent Development initiative, which includes the DigiTruck project, Huawei ICT Academy, and Huawei ICT Competitions.




Soroti university students, who participated in the Huawei ICT national finals, excelled and are set to advance to the regional finals in South Africa. The DigiTruck project, central to the digital transformation agenda, reflects Uganda’s commitment to becoming a digital village.




Vice President Jessica Alupo attended the recent graduation ceremony and commended the graduands for completing the DigiTruck program. Emphasizing the government’s value for the youth, she urged them to utilize the acquired ICT skills to enhance their lives and contribute to community development. Alupo also called for support from the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development to provide ICT equipment for continuous practice and sensitization programs.




Rose Lilly Akello, the Minister of State for Ethics and Integrity, expressed gratitude to Huawei for supporting Uganda through ICT skilling under its Talent Development programs. She encouraged beneficiaries to use their skills responsibly, emphasizing their future leadership roles in the nation.

Hillary Businge, speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development, acknowledged Huawei’s invaluable support in ensuring digital inclusion and prosperity for all.

Huawei Uganda’s Subsidiary Board Director, Yi Junsong (Jason), highlighted the success of the DigiTruck project, training almost double the planned number of beneficiaries in the Teso sub-region. He expressed gratitude to Vice President Alupo for her continuous support and emphasized the importance of skills acquired for improving livelihoods in the Teso sub-region.
