Abim, Uganda: Abim district in Karamoja sub-region in northeastern Uganda was among the best districts producing the best-performing students in both primary and secondary schools. However, the district’s performance has drastically dropped with the recently released primary leaving examinations and secondary results, shocking everyone and leaving people asking themselves what could have gone wrong in Abim.
However, Dr. Patrick Ojok, a lecturer at Kyambogo University, has said he has six methods to take Abim education standards back to the previous level, where it was the only district producing the best students.
Dr. Ojok, who is currently eyeing the Member of Parliament position for Ethur County, a position held by Jimmy Brikcy Ocero, said most leaders have failed to find the best approach to improve education standards in Abim.
According to Dr. Ojok, there’s no way students can perform well when their parents are too poor to meet the demands necessary for achieving the best results.
He said his plans, which are still confidential until the time of launching his manifesto, encompass all ways of removing poverty from people.
“I will not be a lamenting leader, but I will be a results-oriented leader,” he said.
He noted that out of every five students that the government gives scholarships to, he will also add five more, making it ten every quarter.
