A tragic incident occurred at Nambale Primary School in Nambale sub-county, Iganga District, as Ms. Joy Kanage, a teacher at the school, was struck dead by lightning while walking in the school compound. The Nambale sub-county LC3 chairman, Mr. Nasur Ibanda, confirmed the incident, stating that the police had handed over the body to her relatives for burial.

The Iganga District LC5 chairman, Mr. Ezra Gabula, expressed concern over the lack of lightning arresters in many schools and urged the government to reinforce their installation before the start of the first term next week. He emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent such tragedies.

However, the Iganga District Education Officer, Mr. Baker Kasadhakawo, provided a differing viewpoint, stating that schools in his district have lightning arresters. He mentioned that the deceased was struck while on the football field, collecting goats, as rain started falling.
