Long Serving Professors Bid Farewell at Makerere University

The East African School of Higher Education Studies and Development recently said goodbye to two of its senior staff members, Prof. J.C.S. Musaazi and Dr. David Onen. The farewell event took place on September 29, 2023, and featured various festivities, including music, dance, speeches, and more. The party was attended by school staff and the doctoral class of 2023, as well as distinguished guests from the university administration.

During the celebration, Prof. Musaazi was recognized for his significant contributions to the school, including spearheading the institution’s first-ever taught PhD program and facilitating the deployment of notable professors through the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation. Dr. Onen, reflecting on his 37-year journey at the university, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and highlighted his achievements, such as supervising numerous students and contributing to academic publications.




The Ag. Dean of the School, Prof. Julius Kikooma, emphasized the importance of higher education and expressed gratitude to Prof. Musaazi and Dr. Onen for their contributions to the school’s development. The event was a heartfelt tribute to these retiring staff members who have made a lasting impact on Makerere University.
