Makerere University has announced its search for a second deputy vice-chancellor to provide strategic leadership and oversee fiscal resource management within the institution. The position, as outlined in an official announcement, will report directly to the vice-chancellor and carry responsibilities including planning and development, as well as delegated duties from the university council.
The university has invited applications from suitably qualified candidates for the role of second deputy vice-chancellor. It has emphasized the importance of submitting complete applications within the specified deadline to be considered for the position.
Applicants must hold at least the rank of associate professor from a reputable academic institution, be aged between 40 and 65 years, and be Ugandan citizens.
Established in 1922 as a technical school, Makerere University has grown to become one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education in Africa. Initially named Uganda Technical College, the institution initially offered courses in carpentry, building, and mechanics, gradually expanding its offerings to include medical care, agriculture, veterinary sciences, and teacher training.
Over the years, Makerere University evolved into a center for higher education in East Africa and began offering post-school certificate courses in 1937. Today, it comprises nine colleges and one school, catering to approximately 36,000 undergraduate and 4,000 postgraduate students across various programs.
