NAM Summit Spurs Academic Call for Science Education Advancement

Amidst the ongoing 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Kampala, academic experts advocate for a shift in discussions towards enhancing science and technology among the 120 member states. Dr. Pr. Israel Masiko Kafeero, Vice Chancellor of Bugema University, emphasizes the summit’s potential to shape policies fostering uniform development through the growth of science and technology.

In a press address during the launch of Bugema University’s 75th-anniversary celebrations, Dr. Kafeero stresses the need to transcend political discourse within NAM discussions. He underscores the importance of engaging youth in scientific learning to enable informed decision-making for problem-solving.




Dr. Kafeero advocates for increased financial allocations for science and technology within national budgets, citing their pivotal role in elevating production and fostering economic growth. He further recommends exchange programs for university students among NAM member states to encourage collaborative learning.

Dr. Kafeero unveils Bugema University’s week-long 75th-anniversary celebrations, commemorating its founding in 1948 as a ministerial training college by the Seventh-day Adventists church. The celebration extends to sister schools, emphasizing their significant contribution to the development of learners, including prominent figures like Pr. Dr. Blasious Ruguri, the SDA leader of the East-Central Africa division.

Highlighting the institution’s global impact, Dr. Kafeero proudly notes Bugema University’s diverse student body from countries such as Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Nigeria, Ghana, Somalia, Zambia, and Cameroon. With a sprawling 640-acre campus, the university obtained government charter status in 2007.
