The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) will release the 2024 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results tomorrow, Thursday, January 23, 2025.

Officials from UNEB briefed First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, on the release yesterday, Tuesday. The briefing took place at State House Nakasero.

Following the briefing, officials confirmed that the results will be released tomorrow, Thursday, January 23rd.

A total of 798,771 candidates registered for the 2024 examination, an increase of 6.6% from the 749,254 candidates who sat for the 2023 exams. These candidates wrote their exams at 15,311 centers across the country.

The exams, conducted in November last year, were marred by widespread malpractice. An assessment conducted by UNEB revealed that many cases involved collusion between headteachers, examination scouts, and invigilators.

The UNEB report highlighted several instances of cheating at top schools across the country. One notable incident occurred at St. Mugagga in Nkozi, Mpigi District, where a teacher was caught writing answers on the blackboard while invigilators watched.

Seven individuals, including the UNEB scout, the school headteacher, and five invigilators from St. Mugagga, were arrested and are awaiting trial.

The release of the PLE results is eagerly awaited by students, parents, and educators. It marks a crucial step for students as they transition to secondary education.

The results will also provide valuable data on student and school performance, which will be used to inform education policies and interventions.

UNEB has taken measures to ensure the integrity and security of the examination process.

After the results are released, schools will begin the Senior One selection process, choosing candidates based on established cut-off points. This selection process typically takes place at the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA).

Education officials attending the briefing on the PLE results were required to take a COVID-19 test beforehand.

The Official Release of the results will be streamed live on both UNEB (UNEB_UG) and MOES Social media platforms starting at 11:00 am.

Once released, the results will be accessible:

  • Through mobile Short Message Service (SMS):
    • Type <PLE> (with a space), followed by the full index number, and send to 6600.
    • Example: PLE 00123/356, SEND TO 6600
  • Via school examination centers.
