(KAMPALA) – The Police in Kiira Division have detained five teachers and two students in connection with alleged examination malpractice involving Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) exams. The teachers reportedly had unauthorized exam materials believed to be UNEB Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) papers, while two candidates were found with phones during their Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams.
The accused teachers, charged under Section 25 (i) of the UNEB Act, include five individuals who were allegedly in possession of exam content they shared through social media channels. The details of the accused teachers are as follows:

Authorities report that the accused teachers circulated what they believed to be UNEB PLE exam papers, including content in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies (SST), and English, on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram. Additionally, it is alleged that some of them read out the answers to candidates at Kisoso Primary School in Masaka City. Police continue to search for the school director of Kisoso Primary School, who is also suspected of involvement in the scheme.
The five teachers are scheduled to appear in Kiira Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, November 12, where they will face charges related to exam malpractice.
In a related incident, two female UACE candidates registered with Masaka Hall were found with smartphones in the examination room during an afternoon session. According to reports, one candidate, Nabahinda Cecilia, was allegedly using artificial intelligence on her phone to access an essay, while the other, Nakiyimba Grace, reportedly had summarized notes saved on her device.
