A 23-year-old chapati maker, Jonah Turyatunga, was electrocuted to death on October 23, 2023, while attempting to connect power for his daily work in Rutwe village, Kihihi town council, Kanungu district.
Turyatunga accidentally made contact with a live wire, causing severe burns and his immediate demise. The incident was reported to the police by Justus Barekye, and a statement was recorded at the scene. The deceased’s body was taken to Kihihi Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, stressed the importance of proper training for handling electricity and legal connections. He cautioned the public against engaging in electrical work without the necessary expertise.
The body was subsequently released to the family for a dignified burial. The incident has been officially documented as a case of death by electrocution and is registered at Kihiihi Central Police Station under reference number CRB 344/2023.
