On the evening of September 16, 2023, Lilian Mbabazi attended Sheebah Karungi’s post-performance dinner, where she discussed her reasons for supporting Sheebah over her former bandmate, Cindy Sanyu, at the recent music battle in Kololo.
In the presence of Sheebah’s close friends, fellow artists, and business associates, Mbabazi commended the ‘Yolo’ singer for her outstanding performance at Kololo.
Mbabazi also expressed her gratitude towards Sheebah, referring to her as her loyal friend who provided support during challenging times. She stated, “I think many people have been waiting for me to speak about the show yesterday… because, yeah, it’s Lilian Mbabazi who used to sing with Cindy…but you (Sheebah) have been my ‘gango.’”
She continued, “This woman will pick you up when you are down… everybody goes through something; we are not always okay.”
Additionally, Mbabazi lauded Sheebah’s strong work ethic, describing her as a determined individual who pursued her goals relentlessly.
While acknowledging her past collaboration with Cindy, Mbabazi indirectly addressed her former bandmate, implying that Sheebah played a significant role in elevating Cindy’s career. She remarked, “Yes, I sang with Cindy, and it’s beautiful. You know she is a good singer, but even me, I am a greater singer. But what I am saying is, you (Sheebah) gave a platform for Cindy; you guys sold out Kololo yesterday.”
Mbabazi, Cindy, and Jackie Chandiru were members of the popular girl band Blu*3, which gained fame in 2004 but disbanded two years later due to differences, notably Cindy’s extended vacation with her boyfriend in Spain.
Rumors about a possible reunion of the three former bandmates circulated last year, with Chandiru stating that they had resolved their differences.
During the dinner, Mbabazi addressed a rumor on Twitter that suggested she had performed as one of Sheebah’s backup artists at the Kololo show. She clarified, “On Twitter, the story was that I, Lilian Mbabazi, was doing back-up for Sheebah on stage. I told them to let the girl have her shine. Why do you bring me up in your business? I was just there sitting, but guess what…when Sheebah is good, they will come and look for the good person.”
