Kampala, Uganda – Sports can provide the experience of establishing a shared vision, working as a high-performing team toward a common goal, and developing the tools necessary for a successful transition to adulthood.

A groundbreaking collaboration has been witnessed between the Office of the President (Diaspora Affairs) and Athletes for Life, founded by NFL legend, Olympic long jumper, and motivational speaker Greg Bell.

This follows a meeting between Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi, and Greg Bell, solidifying a partnership and signifying a significant investment in the future of Ugandan youth.

Founded in 1989, Athletes for Life is a non-profit foundation dedicated to outreach programs aimed at engaging students and adults in the community and improving lives. Athletes for Life’s proven track record in workforce development and youth mentorship will provide invaluable skills training and leadership development opportunities for young Ugandans.

In his words, Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi welcomed Greg Bell, stating that his initiative extends beyond athletic achievement, fostering crucial life skills essential for success in all aspects of life. “We aim to cultivate a generation of well-rounded individuals prepared to contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s growth and development. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment, and as an advocate for children’s well-being and development, I recognize the profound impact of sports in shaping the lives of young individuals.”

He emphasized that sports can provide the experience of unity, empowerment, and dedication, ultimately leading to socio-economic transformation, as emphasized by His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. “Sports can provide the experience of establishing a shared vision, working as a high-performing team toward a common goal, and developing the tools necessary for a successful transition to socio-economic transformation,” Walusimbi added.

The Ambassador pledged to work hand-in-hand with Greg and his Athletes for Life foundation, committed to prioritizing sports as an essential component of young people’s journey toward a healthy, balanced, and fulfilling life.

On his part, Greg Bell expressed his excitement about having different ways of empowering the youth, especially through sporting activities. “I will continue to inspire, empower, and uplift the next generation of leaders, innovators, change-makers, and tomorrow’s NFL stars.”

He promised to leverage this collaboration to advocate for the prioritization of sports as a vital element in a child’s path toward a wholesome, harmonious, and gratifying existence. “From a young age, I was fortunate to have mentors who believed in me and guided me toward realizing my potential. My ultimate goal is to help kids find their dreams and equip them with the tools, resources, and support system necessary to achieve those dreams,” he emphasized.

Ultimately, this collaboration marks a pivotal moment, setting the stage for Uganda’s strong presence at the 2027 Olympics and beyond.
