Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, a renowned novelist with multiple international awards under his belt, made a significant move towards returning home from exile. With qualifications in law from Cavendish Law School and Europa Universität specializing in Public International Law and International Humanitarian Law, Rukirabashaija is no stranger to the complexities of the legal world. However, his journey has been marred by the harrowing experience of torture, marking him as a survivor.
Seeking to reclaim his identity and citizenship, Rukirabashaija visited the Uganda Embassy in Berlin to apply for a passport. Despite the challenges he has faced, he found the embassy’s staff to be very helpful, even offering him Ugandan delicacies such as Uganda Waragi, the country’s renowned spirit, along with other gifts. This positive experience stands out, as it is the only Ugandan embassy abroad reported to be fully functional.
However, amidst the hopeful atmosphere, cautionary words emerged from online users. Nick Twinamatsiko warned Rukirabashaija about the Uganda Waragi, referring to a clip involving Ssejusa that suggests potential risks associated with the drink. Another user, Kafeeza, expressed concern about Rukirabashaija’s outspoken nature, implying that his return might be met with resistance or even violence. Nonetheless, Kafeeza’s message conveyed a sense of longing for Rukirabashaija’s return, expressing support for him as a potential presidential candidate in 2031.
Adding to the mix, a user claiming to be a press secretary of Gen Salim Saleh issued a stern warning to Rukirabashaija, urging him to return as a changed person to avoid confrontation. This message, while firm, also acknowledged Rukirabashaija’s connection to Uganda, emphasizing that the country belongs to all its citizens.
In a cryptic comment, a Kenyan follower referenced Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi, alluding to the dangers faced by outspoken individuals who challenge authority. This ominous reminder underscores the potential risks involved in Rukirabashaija’s decision to return home.
