Former Amolatar MP aspirant, Mr. Adupa Felix Ongwech, has called off the peaceful demonstration that was scheduled for today in Amolatar District. The decision was made after discovering that groups of goons, allegedly organized by individuals involved in corruption in the district, intended to use the demonstration as a cover to loot and destroy property in Amolatar town. Upon learning of these plans, Ongwech decided to cancel the demonstration to prevent potential harm and ensure the safety of the community of Amolatar District.
Over the past two weeks, the Amolatar District Local Government has faced significant pressure from concerned citizens led by Adupa Ongwech demanding accountability from district officials regarding the poor condition of the roads.
On June 27, 2024, Adupa wrote to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Amolatar, pursuant to Article 41 of the Constitution, requesting documentation of all road projects undertaken by the Amolatar District Local Government in the fiscal years 2022/2023 and 2023/2024. To his dismay, the CAO did not provide the requested documents but instead referred Ongwech to the District CIID Amolatar, stating that all roads are under investigation.
This prompted Adupa Ongwech to file a general inquiry (file number GEF/11/2024) at Amolatar CPS for abuse of office, mismanagement of public funds, and corruption. The investigation was promptly undertaken by detectives from Amolatar CPS.
The demonstration, which was called off, was supposed to commence at 9:00 AM, starting from Amolatar Boma Ground, proceeding to the RDC’s office, and finally to the district headquarters, where they expected to meet several district officials, including the CAO, CFO, Engineer, and others.
