Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, met with the new Italian Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Mauro Massoni, at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters in Entebbe. The meeting took place this afternoon and focused on strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
Gen. Kainerugaba warmly welcomed Ambassador Massoni, marking their first meeting since Ambassador Massoni’s recent appointment. Ambassador Massoni replaced Ambassador Massimiliano Mazzanti, who completed his term in Uganda last year.
The discussions between Gen. Kainerugaba and Ambassador Massoni covered various topics of mutual interest. Both leaders highlighted the long-standing historical ties between Uganda and Italy. They emphasized their commitment to further enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in areas of defense and cooperation.
The relationship between Uganda and Italy has been strong for many years, but it saw significant growth with the signing of a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation in 2020. This agreement has paved the way for deeper collaboration and mutual support between the two nations.
Gen. Kainerugaba and Ambassador Massoni agreed that their countries have much to gain from continued cooperation and dialogue. They expressed hope that their meeting would be the first of many, leading to stronger ties and greater collaboration in the future.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both leaders looking forward to more interactions and the strengthening of Uganda-Italy relations.
