The Ugandan government has denied sending more than 70 officials to the United Nations General Assembly. The denial was made during a press conference at the Uganda Media Center, where the Minister for ICT & National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi, spoke about the issue.
Minister Baryomunsi firmly stated that the list published by the media was not accurate. He emphasized that not all the people mentioned on the list had gone to the UN General Assembly. As an example, he mentioned, “Hon. Musenero is on that list, but she didn’t travel.”
The confusion about the size of the delegation, according to the minister, arose because three different meetings were happening simultaneously in the same location, each requiring separate delegations.
Baryomunsi explained, “There was a meeting on SDGs where the prime minister attended, and there was the UN assembly attended by the vice president.”
Additionally, Minister Baryomunsi emphasized the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility by minimizing unnecessary expenses. He stated, “We will continue to ensure that we limit government officials’ travel unless it’s necessary.”
