The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA), together with the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), celebrated Africa Public Service Day by donating various items to the Naguru Reception Centre. This act of generosity aimed to support the centre’s mission and strengthen the relationship between the military and the civilian community.
Mr. Mike Wambi Mabonga, Commissioner of Rehabilitation, Psychosocial Support, and Resettlement in the Directorate of Veteran Affairs, represented the Permanent Secretary at the event. He emphasized the Ministry’s and UPDF’s dedication to integrity and their commitment to providing valuable services to the public.
Deputy Chief of Civil-Military Cooperation, Col Sam Ntambirwe, spoke about the significance of fostering harmony and mutual understanding between the UPDF and civilians. He highlighted that such initiatives help build stronger bonds and trust within the community.
Mr. Fred Ngabirano, Commissioner of Youth and Children at the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, acknowledged the vital role the Naguru Reception Centre plays in catering to the diverse needs of the community, particularly for those requiring special care and attention.
Ms. Nyamahunge Esther, Probation and Welfare Officer in charge of the Naguru Reception Centre, expressed her gratitude for the donation. She noted that the UPDF’s support symbolizes the unity and collaboration between the military and civilian sectors.
The event was also attended by Assistant Commissioner for Human Resource Management, Mrs. Harriet Kyomugisha, along with several senior officers.
