A warehouse at Entebbe International Airport, operated by DAS, went up in flames on Tuesday evening, causing losses worth billions of shillings. Firefighters worked overnight to control the fire, which began around 3:45 pm according to witnesses.
Among the destroyed items were mosquito nets meant for distribution by the National Medical Stores (NMS) on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
Cause of the Blaze Under Investigation:
NMS issued a statement on Wednesday, expressing regret for the fire incident. They are presently assessing the damage and collaborating with authorities to determine the cause.
The Principal Public Relation Officer of NMS, Ms. Sheila Nduhukire, stated, “We regret to inform the public of a fire incident at one of the private warehouses we had rented for storing mosquito nets in Entebbe. Emergency fire services were promptly notified, and firefighters are working tirelessly to extinguish the fire.”
She added, “NMS has already activated its business continuity plan to ensure uninterrupted supply of mosquito nets to Ugandans. The mosquito nets were comprehensively insured to minimize any unexpected loss. We will continue to provide updates on the situation as more information becomes available.
