As Kisoro District sends samples from a suspected Mpox case to Kampala for further examination, Dr. Nick Muneza, the Assistant District Health Officer in charge of disease control and surveillance, has advised the people of Kisoro to observe preventive measures.
In an interview with Kisoro FM, Dr. Muneza revealed that the samples sent to the Virus Research Institute for thorough examination were extracted from a young child who was found at Bunagana border in Bunagana Town Council while entering Uganda with his parents.
He added that the child exhibited all the signs of Mpox, which alarmed the health teams at Bunagana. The child was subsequently placed in an isolation ward in Bunagana Town Council.
According to Dr. Muneza, the health teams in Bunagana are attending to the patient in the isolation ward while awaiting results from the research institute.
He clarified that the results will determine the next steps.
Dr. Muneza advised the public to remain vigilant and adhere to the recommended preventive measures, emphasizing that the disease is deadly.
