Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) has received a significant boost to its emergency care services through a $35,000 donation of medical equipment from Seed Global Health.
The consignment, handed over to Acting Hospital Director Dr. Deus Twesigye, includes vital medical devices such as patient monitors, suction machines, oxygen concentrators, patient trolleys, and defibrillators.
Dr. Andrew Twineamatsiko, Program Manager at Seed Global Health, explained that the equipment will enhance the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department and support the training of medical students from Mbarara University of Science and Technology. “Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital is a crucial training center, and we believe that investing in healthcare workers leads to improved patient care,” he said.
Expressing gratitude for the donation, Dr. Deus Twesigye noted that the new equipment will complement existing medical tools and replace outdated ones. With a monthly influx of 1,000 to 1,500 emergency patients, the hospital’s biomedical engineers stress the importance of regular equipment maintenance.
The donated equipment, particularly patient monitors and defibrillators, will enable healthcare professionals to provide timely and effective emergency care. Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital has established itself as a leading emergency care center in western Uganda, having trained 21 emergency physicians in the past five years.
Halson Kagure, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, attributed the significant reduction in 24-hour mortality rates to the hospital’s dedicated team of healthcare workers, including emergency physicians.
Looking ahead, the hospital, with the continued support of Seed Global Health, aims to train 120 emergency physicians by 2030. This ambitious goal will not only enhance patient care but also solidify the hospital’s reputation as a regional hub for exceptional medical training.
