New Health Centers Opened by Prime Minister in Kakumiro District

Saturday, October 14, 2023

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja officially opened three health centers and a laboratory valued at shs.3.6 billion in Kakumiro District on Monday. These new facilities consist of Kikwaya Health Centre III (upgraded from Health Centre II), Kitaihuka Health Centre III, Mukoora Health Centre III, and a laboratory at Kitaihuka Secondary School.

The government, under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UgIFT) Programme, oversaw the construction of these healthcare amenities. The UgIFT program, initiated in 2017, is part of the broader Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer Programme, which seeks to enhance funding and reduce financial disparities for service delivery across local governments.

Prime Minister Nabbanja urged expecting mothers in the district to opt for the newly constructed health facilities over traditional birth attendants. She emphasized the government’s commitment to establishing a Health Centre III in each sub-county to improve access to medical services.
