Hoima City, Uganda — At a time when some parts of the country are grappling with tensions and violence during internal party campaigns, Hoima City has stood out as a model of discipline and unity within the National Resistance Movement (NRM), thanks to the leadership of City Chairperson Eng. Jonard Asiimwe.

While districts such as Mubende and Isingiro have experienced violent clashes that forced the suspension of NRM campaign activities, Hoima City has conducted its joint campaigns peacefully and with high levels of coordination. Local observers and party supporters have credited Eng. Asiimwe for successfully organizing the campaigns in accordance with national party guidelines.

All NRM candidates in the city have participated in the joint rallies, demonstrating mutual respect and a shared commitment to the party’s values. The spirit of cooperation and tolerance among candidates has been widely praised as a positive example of how internal party democracy can be exercised without division.

“This level of coordination—especially so early in Eng. Asiimwe’s tenure—is commendable,” said a senior party mobilizer in the region. “It reflects a deep commitment to the NRM principles of unity, grassroots mobilization, and internal discipline.”

The joint campaign model, introduced by the NRM Secretariat, aims to curb intra-party rivalry and foster harmony during the party’s internal electoral processes. Although implementation has faced challenges in some regions, Hoima City’s experience suggests that with focused leadership and adherence to party values, peaceful and effective mobilization is attainable.

Eng. Asiimwe, who is also vying for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda, has been praised for promoting discipline and cohesion at the grassroots level.

Party supporters and officials have called for other districts to emulate Hoima City’s example as the NRM continues its internal elections nationwide. The peaceful conduct of the campaigns in Hoima is being held up as evidence that political competition within a party need not come at the cost of unity or public order.

As the internal campaign season progresses, Hoima City’s success story is expected to be cited as a benchmark for best practices in political mobilization and leadership within the ruling party.
