Kasese District, Uganda — A tragic incident unfolded in Nyamatunga Village, Munkunyu Sub-county, when a house collapsed during a communal work activity, leaving several people injured and hospitalized.
The victims were participating in bulungi bwansi, a traditional form of community labor, at the home of Ms. Meresi Ithungu Kadiho, a local widow. The house suddenly gave way, burying a number of participants under the rubble.
Mr. Mupendarah Mulyangasu, Chairperson of Kyesoro Village and one of the first responders, confirmed that Ms. Kadiho and other injured individuals were taken to Kagando Hospital for treatment.
The exact number of those injured remains unconfirmed, though early reports indicate at least ten people were affected.
Also present at the scene was the Local Council I Chairperson of Nyamatunga III, Mr. Mugisa Reuben Isebakama, who is now closely monitoring the victims’ recovery.
“Their survival is purely by God’s mercy,” Mr. Isebakama said, speaking from Kagando Hospital.
Authorities have yet to release an official police report, but investigations are expected to begin into the cause of the collapse, which is believed to be linked to the poor structural condition of the house.
