Obongi, Uganda — The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, over the weekend returned one million shillings to Ms. Gloria Kakaya after her husband stole the money, which was intended for the Parish Development Model (PDM), and used it to marry another woman in Lionga South cell, Lionga ward, Obongi Town Council.
Ms. Kakaya’s husband stole the PDM funds while she was pregnant. She subsequently reported the theft to RDC Hashaka.
The RDC immediately brought the matter to the attention of the director of finance, Hajati Medinah, who pledged to refund the stolen money.
Hajati Medinah then handed over the funds to RDC Hashaka, who, in turn, presented them to Ms. Kakaya.
RDC Hashaka advised PDM beneficiaries to safeguard their funds and, especially, to use them for their intended purpose. He also cautioned SACCO leaders against extorting beneficiaries, emphasizing that accessing PDM funds is free of charge and no fees should be levied.
One beneficiary, who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, said she had purchased five goats and now plans to buy chickens to practice both goat rearing and poultry keeping in Obongi Town Council.
