Professor Venancius Baryamareeba, the ex-Makerere Vice Chancellor, recently took to social media, specifically X, to air his thoughts on Uganda’s political landscape, particularly targeting musician-turned-politician Bobi Wine. In a post, he exclaimed, “And this musician, Bobi Wine wanted to be president of Uganda. How do you suspend No. 2 in the Party with immediate affect. So, there is no hand over? If you became president you would be worse than Amin. Those thinking of joining NUP, think twice. NUP is dying and dusted.”

The comparison of Bobi Wine to former President Amin did not sit well with Lumumba Amin, son of the late President Idi Amin Dada. Responding to Baryamareeba’s remarks, Lumumba Amin took to X, setting aside his own differences with the National Unity Platform (NUP) and its leader, Bobi Wine.

In his response, Lumumba Amin expressed his disdain for Baryamareeba’s comments about his late father, stating, “I would like to respond to the uncalled for smear by Professor Baryamareeba against my late father His Excellency President Idi Amin Dada in the professor’s public post… I think what he wrote is a sign of a stupid person who once wanted to be president of Uganda.”

Lumumba Amin criticized Baryamareeba’s lack of understanding regarding the purpose behind administrative actions such as immediate suspensions. He questioned the professor’s managerial skills during his tenure as Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, suggesting incompetence and an inability to make necessary decisions.

Furthermore, Lumumba Amin challenged Baryamareeba’s professional legacy, questioning his contributions to Uganda’s development and academic advancement. He accused the professor of intellectual mediocrity and questioned the value of his educational credentials. Lumumba Amin insinuated corruption, nepotism, and tribalism as potential factors behind Baryamareeba’s career advancements.

In closing, Lumumba Amin urged Baryamareeba to refrain from involving his late father in what he deemed as “costly ignorance.” He dismissed Baryamareeba’s achievements as insignificant and urged him to focus on tangible contributions to the country.

He implored Baryamureeba to cease his futile attempts at relevance.
