Alur King Renews Call for Tarmac on Vital Nebbi-Goli-Paidha Road

Thursday, November 2, 2023

King Phillip Rauni Olarker III of the Alur Kingdom has once again urged the government to pave the 119-kilometer Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Zombo-Zeu-Warr-Vurra road. This appeal took place during his 13th coronation anniversary celebration at Alengo playground in Parombo town council, Nebbi district.

The King’s request centers on the critical Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Warr-Vurra road, a pivotal economic and transport artery connecting West Nile Sub and the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This road has been a matter of concern, especially during the rainy season, due to its perilous condition.

Historically, promises were made during the 2010/2011 and 2015/2016 general election campaigns, with President Yoweri Museveni vowing to pave this vital road. King Phillip Rauni Olarker III, speaking to State Minister for Northern Uganda, Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, emphasized the importance of road tarmacking for the region’s development and economic well-being.

The King’s perspective highlights that fulfilling such pledges is of utmost importance, as the main roads in the area hold immense significance for the livelihoods of the people in the greater Nebbi region.

In a show of public sentiment and frustration, a group of youth in Zombo district recently threatened to stage a massive demonstration. They expressed their disappointment during a consultative meeting at the district headquarters, accusing the government of neglecting the rehabilitation and tarmacking of this critical road, along with others in a deteriorating state.

However, Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary General, advised the Alur community to exercise patience. He explained that feasibility studies and architectural designs for the 119-kilometer Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Zombo-Zeu-Warr-Vurra road have been completed, and the government is in the process of mobilizing the necessary funds to commence the road construction.

This plea from the Alur King serves as a reminder of the pressing need for infrastructure development to enhance economic prosperity and safety in the region. The call for tarmac on the Nebbi-Goli-Paidha road resonates with the community’s desire for improved transportation and trade links.
