The Embassy of Japan will commission a newly constructed girls’ dormitory at Nyakishojwa Secondary School in Mitooma District on Friday, 7th June 2024, and at St. Kizito Technical School in Ibanda District on Friday, 14th June 2024.

“The Project for the Construction of a Girls’ Dormitory at Nyakishojwa Secondary School in Mitooma District” was signed between the Embassy of Japan and Nyakishojwa Secondary School on 10th March 2023, with a total grant of USD 77,674, equivalent to over 276 million Ugandan Shillings.

“The Project for the Construction of a Girls’ Dormitory at St. Kizito Technical School in Ibanda District” was signed between the Embassy of Japan and St. Kizito Technical School on 10th March 2023, with a total grant of USD 86,530, equivalent to over 308 million Ugandan Shillings.

Nyakishojwa Secondary School was established in 1984. At the time of requesting the grant, the school only had dormitory blocks for 105 girls, which were constructed in 1956; however, it accommodated 138 girls due to the increase in the number of students. In response to this challenge, the Embassy of Japan supported Nyakishojwa Secondary School to construct a girls’ dormitory to improve the girls’ living environment.

St. Kizito Technical School was established in 1983. Due to the deterioration of the dormitory block, which was constructed in 1940, there were safety concerns. In response to this challenge, the Embassy of Japan supported St. Kizito Technical School to construct a girls’ dormitory to improve the girls’ living conditions.

The support is part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a scheme administered by the Embassy of Japan to fund community development projects that uplift the lives of people at the grassroots level. So far, a total of 286 projects have been funded under the scheme since its initiation in Uganda in 1992.
